YWCA FAMILY VILLAGE
Background on
this ministry
Sammamish Hills began sponsoring
apartment 404 at the Family Village more than 14 years ago when it opened.
Families who live in the apartments come from shelters or from their cars, and
they can stay for 12-24 months while they prepare for a job that will give them
independence and allow them to live on their own. The apartment we
sponsor, with three bedrooms, is the biggest one there. The apartments are
located across the street from Redmond Elementary School in downtown Redmond.
There are 22 apartments.
Would
you like to get involved?
Supplies: First, we need to begin
collecting the supplies we will need when the present family moves out, and a
new one moves in. We never know when it will be. If we were to buy everything
it is over $350.00. So, imagine a totally empty apartment. Then imagine 4 or 5
people living there. We supply everything except clothing. When a new family
will be moving in, these are the needs:
linens for three twin beds and one double bed, including new sheets, new or like new mattress pads, pillows, blankets and bedspreads
shower curtain
bath mat
towels
Pantry items - EVERYTHING!
Cooking items
Cleaning Supplies - mop, bucket, broom, dust pan and laundry supplies
Personal Hygiene items for each resident of the apartment
nice dishes, pans, small appliances can SOMETIMES be used, please call
Barb collects items year-round so that when the apartment becomes vacant, sometimes last minute, Sammamish Hills is ready to fill in the blanks! You can deliver items to the church office for Barb or to her home. Feel free to contact her with any questions Meadej@aol.com
Volunteering Time:
Barb always am needs volunteers who MIGHT be able to help on
the day we clean and stock. It is usually scheduled on a Friday or Saturday
morning and normally is short notice. It is a very rewarding experience. and
fun way to see how this ministry works.
Cash Gifts: Monetary donations can be used by the ministry to purchase supplies to stock the apartment. There is an account set up at the church to which you can donate money to be used for supplies. The donation is tax deductible.
Please consider contributing to this ministry and contact Barb Johnson with any questions or to find out more ways to help at the Village. Thank you so much.
