Sunday School
We
are excited to begin a new Sunday school year
with a new curriculum program:
Bible Song™
by Faith Inkubators! We chose this program
because it is deeply rooted in the scriptures in
a fun and interactive way. Our children will
experience God’s word by singing, artwork, small
group discussions, Readers Theater, sign
language and more.
Bible Song™
also has a wonderful tool for parents to use at
home with their children; the Home Journal. This
journal is another big reason we are so excited
about this new curriculum. The Home Journal
helps kids and parents review what is taught in
church in an easy and fun way. Each lesson in
Bible Song™
takes a scripture verse and shows it in a
variety of modes: beautiful artwork, lively
songs by a variety of Christian artists,
interactive Readers Theater and cartoons. You
can read more about this curriculum online at
www.faithink.com. Starting in September we
will have it on display in the Narthex each
Sunday morning.
What
Will a Typical Sunday Morning Look Like for the
Kids?
We will begin our morning with kid’s church in
the Sanctuary as in the past. All the kids will
then go with their Sunday school teacher/guide
to the Fellowship Hall for a whole group lesson
time. After the lesson is presented we will then
break up into small groups by age level. Each
Sunday school teacher/guide
will have snack, discussion and art time with
their group. We will then gather again as a
whole group in the Fellowship Hall for a closing
blessing. **All parents will pick up their
children in the Fellowship Hall following
Worship services.
How to Get Involved
We welcome everyone, from middle school
confirmation students up through our XYZ group,
to become
involved
in this exciting Sunday school program. Whatever
your
gifts might be, we have a spot for you! Whether
you are interested in helping every Sunday or
once or twice during the year, we look forward
to having you join us. We are looking for you
fun-loving and kid-loving folks to be our Sunday
school teachers/guides. If you are interested
in art, please consider joining our art team to
help prepare, create and lead our small groups
in art projects. If you love music, we need you
for our opening group time to lead our
Bible Song™
music. Do you know
American Sign Language? Are you interested in
learning with us? Join our signing team! Is
technology your gift? Join our tech team!
Interested in making things run smoothly behind
the scenes? We need you for our support team to
organize
snacks, set up/clean up and for our birthday
brigade. To find out more about these teams,
please contact Karen Harmon (425.392.7799 ext.
15 or
karen@shlc.org).
Toddler
Time:
Join us for play time for children ages 0-5
years and their caregivers. We meet each
Wednesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship
Hall. Meet other moms while your child has a
great time playing with the ride-on cars,
tunnels, roller coaster and other toys!
Admission is $1 per child.
Nursery:
We are working towards opening the nursery again
and would love your help! We are looking for
volunteers to help at both the 8:30 & 10 a.m.
services. Please consider spending time with the
littlest members of SHLC! You can volunteer as
frequently as you wish!
First
Grade Bibles:
Each fall first graders, and those older, who
have not received a Bible, receive a new
children’s Bible. October 12th
is this year’s Bible Sunday for first graders.
This year we will be holding a fun Bible class
for first graders and their parents on Sunday,
October 5th from 11:30 a.m. -1 p.m. in the
Fellowship Hall. Mark you calendars for both of
these important dates!
First Communion:
Each fall we welcome a new group of children to
join in the sacrament of First Communion. In the
past, First Communion has been open to third
grade students. At Sammamish Hills, we believe
participating in First Communion is a decision
that a child and parent should make together.
This year we would like to extend an invitation
to all children who feel ready to join in First
Communion, regardless of grade level.
Preparation classes will be held Sunday, October
19 & Sunday November 2 from 11:30am -1 pm in the
Fellowship Hall. Participation in
both
of these classes is required to participate in
First Communion on Sunday, November 9.
