June Worship Life

In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. . . Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord
shall be saved.” Acts 2.17-18a, 21

These are the words from the prophet Joel which Peter used to explain to the crowd what was happening on the day of Pentecost.

This month in worship we too seek to understand what it means to have the life of the Spirit in us.  We move to hearing about the life of the early church in our readings and we’ll see how they struggled.  Things are not so different today than they were so long ago.  We still fear, we still seek to be whole, we still need Christ!

Join us on Sunday mornings and starting on June 25th on Sunday nights at 7:30pm.

SUNDAY June 4  The Day of Pentecost  New Wine
(Reading:  Acts 2:1-21; John 15:26-27; 16:4b-15)

Fear can be crippling.  When fear takes hold we lose our ability to think clearly and poor choices are often made.  I may choose to try to make it on my own.  I may choose to trust in someone who does not deserve my trust.  There is an antidote to fear.  Trusting in God who is our refuge and strength is the way out.

It is a day for transitions, as we celebrate the graduation of the high school class of 2006, while saying goodbye to our Business Administrator Mary Jones.

SUNDAY June 11  Trinity Sunday  Holey, Wholly, Holy
(Reading:  Isaiah 6:1-8; Romans 8:12-17; John 3:1-17)

Nicodemus came to Jesus with holes in his faith, seeking to wholly offer himself to God, thereby gaining a deeper sense of the holy in his life.  What Jesus had to say made little sense to Nicodemus, for the word he sought whole-heartedly is actually spelled, “love.”

Although last week we said goodbye, this week we’ll say hello to several new members of the Sammamish Hills staff.

SUNDAY  June 18  Growing In Faith (Baptism Sunday & Father’s Day)
(Readings: Ezekiel 17:22-24; 2 Corinthians 5:6-17; Mark4:26-34

There is an old song saying “Inch by inch row by row, I’m gonna make this garden grow . . .”  Jesus tells us in our Gospel for this day faith is like gardening.  Faith is an inch by inch, row by row affair and it often surprises us by what it produces.  The gardener does not make the garden grow.  He or she encourages it, but God is the creator of all life who blesses us with fruits and a bountiful harvest.  Come grow with us this Sunday.

SUNDAY  June 25  Now!
(Readings: Psalm 107:1-3, 23-32;  2 Corinthians 5:6-10, 14-17; Mark 4:35-41)

SUNDAY  June 25  Lord, Where Are You Now?

(Readings: Job 31:1-11; 2 Corinthians 6:1-13; Mark 4:35-41)

It’s the story of life.  One minute, the seas area calm and we sail on, unafraid.  In what seems like the very next moment, we are afraid for our lives, crying out in desperation for someone to deliver us from the storm.  In those moments we cry, Lord, where are you now?
